Taryn Coe is a white teacher working in a white-dominant high school where more than 75% of the students are Caucasian and a majority of white faculty. In this talk, she raises her concerns and steps to tackle racism. She discusses a personal experience from her school where a majority of the people believe racism is “someone else’s problem” due to their upbringing in a white colony and limited interactions with other skin-coloured individuals. She brings up an interesting opinion by agreeing with the Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel’s quote, “We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.”
