Racism has been a topic of discussion for as long as I can remember. However, we are not nearly close to solving the issue of racism and other major social issues in the U.S. A prevalent problem ongoing today is the hate crimes against Asian Americans after the pandemic hit. There has been an increase in hate crimes against the Asian American community for quite some time now. It has been a prevalent problem that democrats have been spreading the word telling others to help the Asian American community. Unfortunately, not only have they been suffering hate crimes, but they have also been suffering many racist incidents. Moving on, many horrific events have been happening to the Asian American community. Even more, the African American community has gone through an ordeal we have learned about in our textbooks. Many black people to this day face police brutality and injustice. They have been brutalized by the police just because of the color of their skin.

Reading Response
After reading Janelle’s response, she describes how one can help us avoid bias against people of different ethnicities is to “looking in the mirror.” However, what intrigued me the most in her response was how she explained how the book “Focus” by Arthur Miller describes how you can not hold a basis against a person without understanding what they go through on a day-to-day basis. Another great idea that she focused on was how the author addressed that you may be the problem, and she used the quote on how the police officer looked in his reflection to see the error in his ways.
