Top 10 things I’m looking forward to as a teacher

  1. Engaging with my students and getting to know them.

I want to have a classroom where my students are engaged and getting to actually know my students very well because there needs to be that connection built in order engage them.

2. That moment when they say “Oh I get it”

That moment when children would struggle with something for awhile then have it make it sense and they understand the concept. It is such a great feeling and that was when I realized I wanted to teach.

3. Excited to learn from my students

I always learn new things especially from students. They are just always full of curiosity and knowledge and know that I will learn something new from them everyday.

4. Being able to teach in Spanish and English

I grew up going to bilingual elementary school and I loved it. At first I was scared because I didn’t know any language perfectly, but it really did help me improve and progress in both languages. I really enjoy speaking Spanish along with music that is in Spanish. I really want to be able to have that in the classroom

5. Make a positive impact on them no matter how big or small it may be.

My teachers definitely impacted me positively and I want to do the same for my students. We have the power to impact them and make a change.

6. Watch my students grow

The students won’t stay in my class forever and will move on in their education. It is always great to see how much they have learned and changed over time and we get to see them take those steps.

7. The challenges as a teacher

Being teacher will have challenging times especially the days with that challenging that you can’t get through or maybe parents and staff members. I am looking forward to learning and growing from those challenge because that will help me improve as a teacher.

8. Going back to where I grew up

I want to go back to my neighborhood and teach in Sacramento because thats where I found my passion for teaching.

9.Bringing culture and diversity

Bringing my own culture in the classroom and of course many other is something I look forward to and would enjoy showing my students how diverse the world is.

10. Showing my passion for teaching

I have always had a passion for teaching even when I did not realize that’s what I wanted to be that was what my heart was set on from the beginning. Looking forward to bring that passion in the classroom that it is seen when I teach.

It is really hard to put my top ten reasons on what I’m looking forward to in teaching because I can list much more. I’m super excited and a little nervous to have my own classroom. This program will help me get where I need and at times where I may be stressed I can remember why I am doing this.

10 THINGS I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO AS A TEACHER

As students preparing to be teachers we are engulfed by all of the negative aspects of school – tests, homework, anxiety and worry- coupled with other pressures of work and anything else happening in our lives. So sometimes we forget what made us initially begin this journey. With the goal of remembering why I started and as a reminder of what drives me to become a teacher, below are ten things that I am looking forward to as a teacher.

  1. The “Aha!” moment

I think this is probably one of the most common aspects that all aspiring teachers look forward to. It’s seeing that student that has been struggling with something finally have that light bulb where it makes sense. I look forward to the sense of confidence and achievement that my students get from moments like this.

  1. Learning from my students

To me, this seems like something that can be overlooked. As future educators we are so focused on how we are going to impart knowledge and wisdom onto our students that we don’t realize how much they have been teaching us in turn.

  1. Never the same thing everyday

Each day is something new. It is definitely not a profession where it is repetitive. With new students comes new experiences, challenges, backgrounds and ideas and the interaction of the combination of these things changes from year to year and even day to day.

  1. Surviving the first parent teacher conferences and Back to School Night

Parent teacher conferences and Back to School Night hold so much pressure and can be such a predominant source of stress that I am looking forward to the sense of accomplishment and confidence that comes when I see that I can handle those aspects of teaching.

  1. The new challenges along the way

Part of things never being completely consistent with new groups of students and new experiences means new challenges. I am looking forward to the challenges because to me each challenge is an opportunity for growth both for my students and for myself.

  1. Seeing the students grow throughout the year(s)

Students can evolve so much during the school year and getting to see how they have grown as students and as people is something that teachers are lucky to witness.

  1. Hearing student idea

Children have a unique way of looking at the world and I am excited to see the new and inventive ideas that my students can create given the opportunity.

  1. Creating my own lesson plans

Although this is a daunting task I am excited of the prospect of creating a lesson that connects with my students and makes learning accessible and fun.

  1. Getting to work with children

This seems like a simple and somewhat obvious part of the job but I am looking forward to it nonetheless. I think kids are so much fun, creative problem solvers and bring a unique perspective that tends to be overlooked.

  1. Making an impact

Each part of the rest of this list is either a byproduct or an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and is one of the foundational reasons that I am looking forward to becoming a teacher.

Through the trials and tribulations of my masters and credentialing program I want to keep these ten aspects of teaching that I am looking forward to in the back of my mind. When I get frustrated, discouraged or overwhelmed I can remember the all of the things I get to look forward to as a teacher.

Top 10 Things I’m Looking Forward to as an Educator

  1. To have my own classroom
  2. Everyday will bring something new
  3. Teaching makes a difference, with visible results
  4. Watching students have that “lightbulb” moment makes everything worthwhile.
  5. Creating creative and interactive lesson plans
  6. The freedom of the job
  7. To watch my students grow
  8. To Give Back to my community
  9. The Challenge
  10. Being excited to go to work everyday

There are so many more reasons as to why I would like to be a teacher, but these are the top 10 things I look forward to as a future educator. I’m looking forward to having my own classroom. When I walk into other teachers classrooms and I see everything they have around the room it gives me so many great ideas for what I want in my classroom. I know that everyday will bring something new in the class, no day will be the same as the day before. Students are creative in their own way and I know they’ll bring something new to the classroom everyday. Teaching makes a visible impact on students, watching them grow from the first day of school to the last day will be a great thing to watch. The “lightbulb” moment ties into watching each individual student grow. Seeing the “light bulb” go off knowing they finally got something is going to be great to see happen. As a future teacher I’m also excited to begin and create interactive lesson plans. As a child, I always felt like school was really dull because my teachers never made lessons fun, they just simply taught the information and moved on. I want my students to be engaged and to take away content that isn’t just the material their suppose to learn in a classroom.

This ties into having the freedom in the job. As educators, we have the freedom to teach what falls under the standard or the framework. We also have the freedom to express ourselves and to allow the students to express themselves however they feel fits them best. My goal is to return to my community in the bay area and teach there. I’ve always wanted to go back and teach at my high school. A lot of the teachers that I had are the reason that I want to be a teacher. They genuinely cared about their students as individuals and wanted them to succeed. I’d love to go back, but living in the Bay Area is so expensive, it might not be ideal. The Challenge I believe teaching will bring, is the idea that sometimes not everyone is going to be on the same page as you. Teachers have to sometimes break barriers down in order to do their job. Not everything in the world is sunshine and rainbows and there are times where fighting for what’s right is necessary. Regardless of it all, I’m excited to go to work everyday. Teachers don’t have a traditional 9-5 schedule, they come in to prep at whatever time, and leave when everything is done, but it’s all for the students. I didn’t choose teaching for the salary, I chose it to make a difference. I’d rather be excited everyday about my job, then wake up every morning and do a job that makes me unhappy and dread it.
