Fall 2012 – “The Jews of Africa” with Rabbi Gershom Sizomu

Thursday, November 5, 2012  l  11:45 a.m.  l  USF Main Campus, McLaren 252

Rabbi Gershom Sizomu, leader of the Abayudaya Jews of Uganda, presents “The Jews of Africa.”

Jews are an amalgam of many peoples and include a multitude of ethnicities, languages, nations, and tribes. Over the centuries, Jews migrated from their original epicenter — the geographic crossroads of Africa, Asia, and Europe — to the “four corners of the world.” Although there have long been sub-Saharan African Jewish communities, little is known about them. Come learn about the Ugandan Jewish community, with their leader, Rabbi Gershom Sizomu.

This Swig Program in Jewish Studies and Social Justice Program event is co-sponsored by the Departments of Theology and Religious Studies, Politics, and Programs in African Studies Program, and International Studies Program.
