Part I of a special three-part series, in which we hear from local scholars of national renown about the two-millenium history of Jewish/Christian relations in three distinct periods. Organized in conjunction with Professor Jeremy Brown’s course “The Jewish-Christian Relationship.”

50 years since the Vatican’s historic Nostra Aetate proclamation, the priority of promoting mutual understanding between Jews and Christians remains a matter of urgency. In this three-part lecture series we will hear from nationally renowned scholars about the history of Jewish-Christian relations in three distinct periods: Ancient – “The ‘Embarassing’ Bible: Ancient Jews and Christians on the Disappointment of Scripture,” Dr. Eva Mrocek, UCD [March 22]. Medieval – “The Importance of Household for Understanding Medieval Jewish-Christian Relations,” Dr. Deena Aranoff, UCB/GTU [March 29]. Contemporary – “‘A Gift for the Jewish People’: The Yiddish New Testament and the 20th-Century Mission to the Jews,” Dr. Naomi Seidman, UCB/GTU [April 5]. Each lecture will have a short response from a USF scholar, followed by a Q&A open to the audience.
