Having been an athlete my entire life, I do know what it is like to have worked and sacrificed for a team. I’ve played softball and baseball my entire life, so there comes a time in every game where you need to perform a “sacrifice bunt”. Much like how Rendell described in the beginning of the chapter, when each cyclist pedals less than 100% to give up the first place spot for their teammate, I would give up my chance at first for mine. A sacrifice bunt is when you go up to bat and there are runners on base, I make a bunt knowing that I will get out in order to advance the runners. It is never one’s intention to get out when you’re up to bat, you always want to make it on base, but a smart player knows when it’s essential to perform a sacrifice bunt, just like a cycling team knows how to pedal as a unit with one person in 1st place.
