Reading Response -my response

I read ZhiHeng Wang’s response and I and he touched on several similar points. The fact that the teacher treated Dick the way she did making him realize what shame is based on how others made him feel is the part that completely threw me off. The teacher definitely does not deserve to be a teacher based on how she treated him and made him feel different than the rest of his students. The end of the essay where she told him that he didn’t have a daddy was very stereotypical and obviously had racist intent which I can see how it affected him.

Individual Writing

I believe one of the most historical events to shake up my world as well as everyone else belief was when Trump was elected president. It is very funny to me because at one point people were joking about the fact that he would become president as I was watching the Roast of Donald Trump on Comedy Central. No one ever pictured this as a reality. The main reason why I have such hate towards Donald Trump is the fact of moral respect. It doesn’t matter if your the leader of a country or just a typical citizen, respect always goes a long way. The way Trump treats reporters, as well as the race and gender orientation of others, sets a big toll as it is disgusting in nature and perfectly depicts what you should not be as the president of the United States.

One event in particular really affected me and my family during this clown’s presidency. On Friday, January 27, 2017, Trump signed an executive order that banned foreign nationals, predominantly in Muslim countries, for 90 days. My aunt and her whole family are of Arabic descent and her father was living in Syria at the time. My aunt just gave birth as well towards the middle of January and her father really wanted to see his first grandson. Unfortunately, due to laws put in place that year, he could not travel to the US for 90 days and that was truly a sad time for me and my family. This one of the hundreds of downfalls I faced as Trump being president. Every day morning I wish to look at my TV and see a president that has moral integrity and aspects from which I can learn on a day to day basis. As far as this presidency went, I haven’t learned anything other than why it should never be a person like him.

Nov 16 Discussion Response

The discussion post I read was Jie Shi and we wrote some similar ideas as well. The first one that I and her wrote similarily about was being prepared before the presentation with the appropriate clothing and equipment in order to give a good presentable speech. I like how she also included making eye contact because this is very important as eye contact is the number one trait to gain respect from someone else. For instance, when Donald Trump gives speeches he rarely makes eye contact and is always gawking his speech script whereas Obama for example, looks everyone in the eyes when delivering a message. She also said that giving a moment of silence is very important to build tension within the audience and for the audience to ask questions after the speech.

In my group, I was with Hang Yang and Jie Shi. We all agreed on the fact that in every presentation it is good to have supporting images for the audience to use as a referrence within the speech aswell as to give them more insight on the topic. Just like Hang said, it is very important to incorporate your personal life into any topic you have chosen for your speech. We also agreed on the importance of having silence within various transitions of the speech. Silence brings instant tension to the crowd making the emotion feel very real in any given scenario. For instance, in the speech where Emma Gonzalez spoke about the kids shot in the school shooting, the moment of silence served as a tribute and honoring those who have been killed. This adds alot of grittiness to the overall tone of the speech and its a key strategy to incorporate within any speech.

Reflection for essay 2

For this essay, I re-evaluated my essay and found many issues with what I wrote. Although I included strong points, I could’ve touched upon more specific examples to support the other additional rhetorical strategies within her speech. For example, I included originally how my analysis strongly appeals to ethos but I could’ve suggested more strategies and appeals within her speech. Another aspect of my essay I should’ve carefully focused on was the form and structure of my analysis is in APA format. It has been a while for me so I was a bit confused, but now reading through I have distinguished what I should do in the future.

October 26 2020 Individual reading response

I read Mersaydes’s response and in many ways, me and her wrote similar responses. She talks about the racial difference in the way she communicates versus a person from local areas as many sentences were constructed differently. Another point I found very good that she added was about how it is important to understand cultural backgrounds. Another point she mentioned was how morals are different than that of people from the U.S. and that was clearly described in the essay from Marilyn and her grandmother.

Appeals by Social Media Pages (Lucki)

Today I decided to take a look at one of my favorite artists’ Instagram pages: Lucki. On his page, he likes to display his vocals and beats by complimenting his music with stunning visuals. In this case, I can see a clear form of pathos being used as he is attempting, with these certain visuals, to sway the audience emotionally. Another great part I noticed on his page was his use of ethos. Lucki, being a very notable artist and being co-signed by countless top tier artists/celebrities, he is able to establish a solid connection with his fans and business. In his bio, he has the label he is signed to as well as information about contacting his management team. This gives strong credibility to show that he is of some worth and has a full-on team supporting him.

Coke advertisement rhetoric analysis Group members :Jasper, Runze, Mercedes

The first few things we noticed right off the bat were the style of the text and how it stated: “At ease…for refreshment”. This simple quote from the ad says a lot about the drink in general and the picture used for the add boosts its message of refreshment. This strategy is to analyze the style in the writing to get us a sense of the emotional connection it has with its audience. This takes us to the next thing we noticed and that was the picture. It comprised of army soldiers and a lady pouring coke from the tab to them smiling. This gave a clear picture of someone whos had a long day and is in need of grabbing the perfect refreshment.
