Class week 9

In class this week we talked with Mark Miretsky from JUMP bikes. we had a very good discussion after being able to test out these bikes. I really enjoyed riding it around because it was so easy and you got to go so much faster with just a little push!Aside from the bike I think the most impactful thing that mark said was was about audiences and how he changes depending on who he’s talking to. I thought this was so important because then layer in class it really helped connect Duarte’s reading an give like a real life example. an idea that the both of them shared was that the connection to your audience is so important and that this changes as the closer you are to someone and also the larger the group gets. meaning you will have more to talk about with a friend or small l group because you can make connections much easier.

expedition post

This expedition that I went on was with a few other girls in the class and Proffesor hunt to the California bicycle summit. I thought this was a really cool experience. It started of by us driving all the way to Sacramento early in the morning. Once we got there we split up and went to different sessions. The one we went to was about bicycle way finding. this was very interesting because we got to hear from people who work in Oakland and other cities close to san Fransisco about the ways they are making their cities more inclusive for bike riders. After this meeting we wound up going to the next session where we had to give our own presentations to random people. The idea of this was very intimidating but who it actually happened it was easier then I had thought. We also met a lossy who was from the san Fransisco bike coalition and she told us way we could get internships there. I think over all this was a very successful day and I had a lot more fun then I had thought would going to a bicycle conference. 🙂

Class 8 post

In class 8 we gave our module 2 presentations on evidence. We started in the library in the room with really cool chairs and then went up to lone mountain to finish the presentations. before we got to our class room we stopped by the classroom in lone mountain where you are able to build your own bike. It was really cool to see all of the mix match parts and that some people put them together to make there own bike! Once we got to the class we finished our presentations and ate snacks! Personally I would have liked to do better in my presentation but I will talk about that in my reflection post!!!

class 7!!

In class last week we did a lot of interesting things. we started at our school and we biked through the wiggle all the way down to market street. biking on market street was interesting because sometimes we were in a bike lane but sometimes we were just biking where the cars were driving. I think it will be nice when they redo market street and don’t allow regular cars to drive there anymore. At the end of market street was the ferry building where we stopped to get ice cream. We all admired the beautiful views of the bay and its hard to imagine that that used to be a freeway! from the ferry building we biked to ucsf were we met Dr. Doug Bauer who talked to us about evidence and projects he’s being working on there. then after we left on our ride back we went under the freeway and through the mission to complete our 12 mile long bike ride! This was the longest bike ride we have ever done and it was very tiring but looking back I love to tell people that I actually biked 12 miles in one day!!

class 6!

this week in class we did a few different things. we started off class by learning ideas of meditation and how to focus in on parts of our body to relax. then we connected this to presenting by talking about using our bodies in our presentation like being aware of what our arms are doing and where our feet are. This is important for me to remember because I tend to be closed off and cross my legs and lose balance. Then we got a lot of class time to catch up on previous assignments and making sure we have everything in our blogs and canvas. this was extremely helpful and helped clear up a few questions I had. Then to finish off class we put our posters together and edited them so that some people can take them to the conference next week! I think overall this class was very productive and we got a lot done!

expedition post #1

this week I went on my first expedition. After class today in golden gate park me Malia and Sierra decided to go ride our bikes to a ben and Jerry’s. we had to figure out the best way too get there by bike which was hard because there was no bike lanes and we didn’t want to ride on the sidewalk. At first we decided to walk them for a while but then we got tired of that because we were moving very slow and decided to ride the rest of the way in the street. thisbwas a kittle scary but we made it there safely. when we got there we only had one lock but we managed to find a way to lock all of them up together and it worked! After we enjoyed our ice creams we headed back to campus. On our way back we decided to go through the panhandle. this was a fun little mini excursion and it was a nice treat!

class 5 :)

Last week in class my favorite part was riding the tandem bike! I really enjoyed this experience riding through out golden gate park. I had never really even seen someone riding a tandem bike in person so I was very nervous. This experience was pretty hard to get used to because when you are on the back and when. you are on the front it is two totally different things. When your riding on the back you have no control over the braking, steering, or change of gears. this is a weird feeling because if you want to slow down you have to rely on the other person. however the weirdest thing for me was pedaling and knowing I was biking but not being able to see what was In front of the or where we were going.  After we completely crashed and fell over we started communicating more and we started to get the hang of it. By the end of the day we were really in sync and stopping and starting were much easier. I really like the idea of a tandem bike because it has the aerodynamics of a regular bike but the man power of two! Overall I loved the tandem bike and I would for sure do it again

class 4!

In class last week after we recorded data in the panhandle we went to the sf bike coalition from there we went to Golden Gate park. I biked half of the day and according to my strava I biked over 5 miles!! When I saw that that is how much we biked I felt very accomplished and I didn’t even care how tired all of the hills made me because it was worth it! This trip also made me feel a lot more comfortable with riding a bike because we got to go on so many different paths and bike ways. I can’t wait for next weeks adventures!

Class 3:)

In class this week we gave our first individual presentations. I was very nervous because I got drawn to go first. That weekend I also had car problems in thaw so I didn’t get back until class time on Tuesday. So in class I was worried about going first and how good I would do because the only time I was able to practice was in Tahoe and in the uber back! However once I got to class some of my nerves went away when we biked to the conservatory of flowers. it was so pretty and I really enjoyed giving my presentation here. I think I did pretty well on my presentation and I got really good feedback from my peers. After a couple of us presented we got back on our bikes and we went to the music concourse and the rest of out class presented there. Once everyone had gone Proffesor hunt bought us all its it’s!!Â
