Youtube Voice

(forgot to post this a while ago)

Form Column A I decided to watch John Greens “Understanding the Refugee Crisis in Europe” and in Column B I watched “Teach Your Kids to Ride a Bike”. Before watching these videos and before coming into the class I always thought “youtube voice” was a weird concept and never imagined myself as someone who would talk in front of a camera to an imaginary audience. I’ve felt uncomfortable talking into a camera and “vlogging” because it’s just such a weird concept to think about but to some I get why it would be a little more comforting than actually presenting to an entire audience.

In John Green’s video he’s really informative and he knows how to set up the video to keep the audience engaged and knowledgable in the process. It pretty much a presentation just recorded in the loneliness of his own room for people to see later on and its super up close and up front.

In contrast the Teach Your Kids to Ride a Bike felt like a TLC show to me for some reason. Like it was a reality TV kind of thing which made it a different from John Green’s video. It wasn’t really someone speaking into a webcam it was someone being recorded and giving the steps to have someone teach their kids how to ride a bike.
