10/28 In-class Activities and Essay 2 Feedback

Today, I discussed with Runze and Ruki in a breakout room.

In Ruki’s response, I have known that he had a hard time when he was in high school, get isolated, can’t get the love from the host family.

In Runze’s response, he talks about the experience when he took an Africa music course, and he seemed to be an outsider in this class. It’s hard for him to catch points like. If you don’t the culture, some jokes, or slangs you may not understand. I have the same issue as well, and it happens every day. Sometimes I still can not understand what the people saying.  So I have the same feeling as him.

Different from mine, two of my group mates are talking about their personal experience but I write about my roommates’ experience. I think maybe the personal experience is more directly than others’ stories.

 Essay 2 Feedback

After I review the feedback there are several aspects I need to improve.

One is In my introduction, I need to declare the where has article come from and make some information to show its reliability. That is what I lost in my essay.

Then, in the second part of the body paragraph, I just analyze some information in the article but I forget to leave some comments on how that information supports the main arguments.

At last in the conclusion. I need to add a takeaway message from the article. After I read the article. I have known that the restaurant industry is suffering a hard time during the pandemic of both owners and workers. In addition, the article also provides a perspective that the industry itself needs to change like Increase employee benefits and security

I think the extremely serious problem needs to be solved is the environmental problems. human beings’ activity causes a lot of pollution in the environment.

might some people say, it is necessary for the human to use some polluting product in our daily. like the gas, industrial consume, or something.

but one thing that we can make effort to earth is to reduce plastic products such as plastic bags or plastic strew in our daily life. which is not really necessary for people. plastic bags only bring convenience to people but it is harmful to our environment.we should found something to replace using it.

plastic bags are hard to digest by time maybe a couple hundred years even more than a thousand years. one thing is that the “plastic bag kingdom” in the pacific ocean.  plastic products are king animals like a sea turtle, whale. they are died of full plastic waste in their stomach.

The new statistic shows the fact that microplastic has existed in most animals. people eat the animals so people will get a harmful effect.

10/26 In-class Activities

In Elizabeth’s response, I found a different perspective of this essay. she focuses on the language that English is not grandma’s mother language but they talk in her own’s way to communicate with her grandchildren. Maybe what she speaking is includes some grammar mistakes, but it also provides a more close and realistic connection with the audience.

I also get a good idea about the friendship between grandma Wong and her friends. In Elizabeth’s response, she wrote The essay’s argument regarding language differences and cultural identity is that even if there are different languages and backgrounds they are all still connected to one another because they all have one thing they care about most, which is family. I have the same idea as Elizabeth that those people are considering the family as the most important part of their life. But Elizabeth explores more that is even though they may have some cultural difference and don’t know about the culture of one another, they become friends become they have the same faith and value.

10/19 individual writting

In today’s class, I read two group mates’ response

I start with Elizabeth. She summarizes the main point of the section in the book “Using visual media in your academic writing can have all the reach and versatility of more conventional verbal appeals to pathos, ethos, and logos. Often even more”. Moreover, she gives examples to illustrate it. Apollo 8 “earthrise” and poster from presidential candidates. Different from my writing, I like to give an example out of the textbook.

For Feng, he also focuses on the main topic of this section that is visual arguments, the images, have a powerful tool to support arguments. He uses an example of the Chinese government. They print pictures and tests on the wall to promote their policies and their concept and value to the people. Nowadays it becomes a cultural signal in China. His example is familiar to me, so when it comes to someone who does not know about it, they can check it out and leave a deep impression about visual arguments.

FBI is a very serious and authoritative institution in my impression. In this tweet, first of all, it said “according to FBI’s annual crime statistics report “. This is an authoritative report as we all know. at least they do some researcher toward it.  they tell people he can be trusted. It shows its ethos and provides a good base to make and support a statement further. Then it comes to the fact that a violent crime occurred every 26.3 seconds. to help these statistics report more accurately. They encourage people to involve in it.
