Today’s “Student Shout-Out” goes to Communication Studies majors and Delta Zeta sorority sisters Taylor Morton, Alyssa Micciche, Amy Constable, and Mia Barklind, who, along with the rest of the Delta Zeta sisters, are spending 48 hours straight teetor-tottering in Harney Plaza! Why? Read on to find out!
The Teeter Totter-a-Thon is Delta Zeta’s biggest philanthropy event of the year. For 48-hours straight, marathon-style, they”ll keep a seesaw continuously rocking while hosting various events and a raffle drawing to raise money for the Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California. You can purchase raffle tickets from Delta Zeta sisters to help raise money and you get a chance to win prizes, like movie tickets, Giants tickets, gift cards, and more! Raffle tickets are $3 each of 2 for $5.
The 48 hours kicked off yesterday at 1:00. Tonight is movie night at 8:30 pm. Tomorrow at noon is the raffle drawing with free pizza.
Question that I heard in class yesterday: “Do you teeter-totter all night long?” Answer? Yes! It is truly 48 hours straight! Here is photographic proof!
Just kidding! That was some photo editing magic! They really did teetor totter all night long, and they’ll be at it all night long again tonight (is it just me, or are you also humming Lionel Richie?).
According to Taylor, “The HSCNC is located near our campus in the heart of San Francisco, and provides professional speech and language therapy, audiology, counseling and education to people with hearing or communication challenges throughout their lives so that they may achieve their goals in spite of their impairments. Our chapter has been supporting the center for several years in conjunction with our nationwide philanthropic cause: the speech and hearing impaired. For more information about the center feel free to visit www.hearingspeech.org. We hope to surpass our fundraising goals for the center – which help purchase cochlear implants and fund the education of the children and their families at the center – while raising campus-wide awareness of speech and hearing impairments.
We need the help of our USF community to make this event a success so please come out to Harney Plaza, have some fun and make any donation you can to our cause!”
Congratulations to all of the Delta Zeta sisters and especially our Communication Studies majors Taylor, Alyssa, Amy, and Mia! Go visit them in Harney Plaza. They’re on the teeter-totter (you can’t miss them!). Also, in honor of the Teeter Totter-a-Thon, we have a special trivia question on our facebook fan page! Not a fan? Search “Communication Studies Department, University of San Francisco” to fan us and post a guess!
Good luck!!! Teeter-totter away DZ!!!! And stay warm tonight!
