It’s time to check in again with our new students who are chronicling their first semester here at USF for us! First up, Victor Valle:
“To look at who I was before coming here and who I am now is to look at a huge set of differences.
Now, before assuming that I am a completely different person who has changed to the point of non-identification to those who knew me previous to attending University of San Francisco, let me explain myself.
Upon coming to this school, I was fashioned with a certain way of doing things. I had never scheduled my week let alone my day, and I never worked far ahead. However, these things have changed, and for the better at that. Because I’m surrounded by people with passion, drive, and perseverance, I have grown to further develop those traits in myself. College has helped me to grow as a human being, grow as an intellectual, and to grow into myself.
My semester here so far has been great. It’s unbelievable to look back and realize that we’ve only been here for a couple of months, when in reality, it feels like so much more. While midterms proved to be a challenge, I gained my own sense of consistency and momentum – allowing me to balance my schoolwork and my extracurricular activities (Foghorn, WORD!, and others around and outside of campus). I truly feel that I have been taking advantage of all the campus has to offer, and the beauty about that is that there is so much more to offer.
Visiting back home for fall break was interesting. First, I was traveling with a good friend of mine back home to Los Angeles, which proved to be interesting in and of itself.
The most important thing I realized upon going home was the reason I decided to come here in the first place. Along with the appeal in programs and academics, I found USF to be an escape and a way to branch off on my own. It has definitely fulfilled that expectation thus far.
My main goal for the rest of the semester is to continue growing, to continue learning, and to continue challenging myself – in whatever way that may be. I want to push myself to be a bigger part in the campus and to meet more people.
My time here so far has been memorable. From late night strolls through Golden Gate to walking around one of my favorite parts of San Francisco – Mission, and even from walking around downtown to cruising around the Presidio. San Francisco has to much to offer, and I have yet to indulge myself in all of its gifts.
Until next time.”
Thanks, Victor! So glad that your first semester here is going well! We’ll be checking in with our other new students throughout the next week!
