Student Shout-Out: Natasha and Ishtar in the new USF commercial and the Dons win!

I was watching the USF men’s basketball game on TV last night and two exciting things happened.  1) I saw the new USF TV commerical and 2) I watched the Dons win a come-from-behind victory.  Both led to my student shout-out post today.  Why?  Read on to find out!

The new USF commerical is GREAT!  What is even more great about it is that it features (by my count) two (maybe three) of our Communication Studies majors!  Senior Natasha Bojkovic can be seen teaching what look like yoga moves, but I think are dance warm ups (as she is a Dance minor) in Alamo Square in front of the Painted Ladies.  Junior Ishtar Schneider got prime billing in the last shot of the commercial, where she is seen reading a book on a bluff overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, which then transitions to a shot outside of Gleason Library.  I *think* that Mindy Chen, another Communication Studies major, may be on the couch in the Presidio, but it isn’t as clear of a shot.  The commercial is really impressive (kudos to Vice Provost Peter Novak who I think was the mastermind behind it).  The commercials will air during men’s basketball games.  Congratulations to Natasha and Ishtar (and Mindy?) for their starring roles!  You can check out the commercial here:

Since I saw the commercial while watching the basketball game, I must also mention that our Don’s clinched a victory in their first conference game of the season, with great plays by both of our Communication Studies majors, #13 Rashad Green and #32 Angelo Caloiaro!  I know they have been the subject of an earlier “Student Shout-Out,” but if you saw the game last night, you know they deserve another.  The Dons were trailing at the half but went on to beat rival Santa Clara 74-67.  Rashad scored 11 points and hit 7 of his 8 free throws and Angelo also made some important plays and fought hard throughout the game, scoring 8 points.  Congratulations to both Rashad and Angelo and the entire Dons team!  They go on to face St. Mary’s this coming Thursday.  Please.  Beat.  St. Mary’s.

  1. Good eye, Professor DeLaure… I just confirmed with the star herself, Tess, that it is her in the commerical! Wow! So four Communication Studies majors in the commerical! That is so great!

  2. One more Communication Studies major in the commercial… Abbey Lee! She is doing the dance warm-ups/yoga moves in Alamo Square. Five majors in the commercial! That has to be a record!
