Dons' Doings: Communication Studies Game Days, Spring 2011

Drum roll please.  Actually I have the “Rocky” song in my head as I am typing this post.  I think the effect is better if you hum the “Rocky” song too.  Are you doing it?  Okay, here we go…

I am pleased to announce the schedule for our upcoming Communication Studies Game Days!  You remember Communication Studies Game Days: where we go to a game to cheer on our student athletes who are Communication Studies majors.  Communication Studies Game Days: the subject of a USF Connect Featured Photo.  Communication Studies Game Days: where Emma and Lauren got to pose with The Don.  Yeah.  They’re back!  Check out the details below, mark your calendars, and plan on joining us to cheer on your fellow Communication Studies majors!

First up are the Lady Dons: We will be going to to the USF vs. Portland game on Thursday February 17th at 7:00 pm in War Memorial to cheer on three Communication Studies majors: #1 Rheina Ale, #22 Katy Keating, and #45 Mel Khlok.  The Lady Dons have struggled a bit this year, but our majors have shined!  Rheina just made history against Pepperdine by shooting a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line (did you read my post about it?), and Katy and Mel posted 10 points and 11 points, respectively, against Santa Clara last weekend!

On Saturday February 26th at 7:00 pm we will be cheering on the men’s basketball team as they take on Loyola Marymount at War Memorial.  The Dons are currently ranked second in the WCC!  I was at the game last weekend when they swept Santa Clara and I noticed something interesting: three of the players who scored in the double digits all had something in common.  Let’s see if you spot it:

  • Junior Communication Studies major Rashad Green scored a game high 18 points
  • Sophomore Communication Studies major Perris Blackwell scored 14 points
  • Junior Communication Studies major Angelo Caloiaro scored 13 points

That’s right, three of the four double digit scorers for the night are Communication Studies majors!  Coincidence?  Hmmm….  Coincidence or not, those are three good reasons to go and cheer on our Dons!  Also, a special congratulations to Rashad who was named WCC Player of the Week this week!  You can read about it here: http://usfdons.com/sports/m-baskbl/2010-11/releases/20110207t5vsf6  He is the second Don to earn the honor this year.  The other?  Fellow Communication Studies major Angelo after the season opener!

We also have two Game Days coming up for the Diamond Dons baseball team, where we will be cheering on three Communication Studies majors: #18 Jonathan Abramson, #15 Sean Burns, and #28 Adam Clear.  On Saturday March 12th at 3:00 pm we will be travelling to AT&T Park to cheer on the Dons as they play Long Beach State in the AT&T Tournament.  And on Sunday May 1st at 1:00 pm we will be heading to Benedetti Diamond as our Dons take on LMU.

Don’t be left out!  Come and join us at the games and cheer on your fellow Communication Studies majors!  I’ll post more details as we get closer to each game, but I wanted to post early and often in the hopes that everyone will put the Game Days on their schedules and attend.

Comment back if you went to a Game Day last semester!  And you’re welcome for getting the “Rocky” song stuck in your head all day.  GO DONS!
