Student Shout-Out: Forrest Brunson, "Relay for Life" Team Recruitment Chair

What are you going to be doing this weekend? Chances are many of you may be trying to catch up on some sleep. Well, not Communication Studies major Forrest Brunson! What will he be doing this weekend? Spending 24 hours on the Negoesco Field track participating in Relay for Life to support cancer research! Thus, today’s Student Shout-Out goes to Forrest who is currently serving as a Team Recruitment Chair for Relay for Life! I asked Forrest to tell us more about Relay for Life and why he got involved:

“I am currently on this year’s committee for Relay For Life as the Team Recruitment Chair, and if you aren’t aware of what it is, Relay For Life is a 24 hour event that fund-raises and gets the word out about cancer in a very unique way. In the simplest of terms, teams are created, and each of the members is responsible for raising, at minimum, $10, and each team is also responsible for creating ‘shifts’ to ensure that someone is on the track for the entire 24 hours. In the middle of the track, the other teams are ‘camping’ out and participating in events to entertain themselves. In addition there are ceremonies, such as the Luminary Ceremony, which remembers and celebrates those who have battled cancer.  It is a really fun event and everyone is able to come together as community for a cause that affects so many of us.

I RELAY because I have unfortunately heard the words ‘You have cancer’, at the young age of 19. It not only made me feel kidnapped from life, but taught me that cancer doesn’t discriminate on age, race, gender, or sexuality.”
We want to spread the word about this important event. If you are interested in donating to Relay for Life, or if you are interested in coming out to support Forrest’s team, the event begins tomorrow April 20th at 5:00 pm after the USF women’s soccer game in Negoesco Field and goes through Sunday at 5:00 pm. 1. Very inspirational. Relay for life is a great cause
Forrest is very humble with his story. After knowing and seeing what he went through to get his life back, it puts life priorities in perspective.
Shout out to everyone involved this weekend. Every step counts. THANKS
